NEW YORK and CUPERTINO, California—May 13, 2008—HBO and Apple® today announced that programming from HBO is now available for purchase and download on the iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com). New HBO programs on iTunes include the Emmy Award-winning programs "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City," "Deadwood" and "Rome," as well as the critically acclaimed hits "Flight of the Conchords" and "The Wire." The iTunes Store is the world's most popular online TV store with over 150 million episodes sold and features the world's largest catalog with over 800 shows (over 20,000 episodes).
Looks like some shows are the standard iTunes pricing of $1.99/episode, while others (Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood) are $2.99/episode, marking a change in pricing scheme for TV shows on iTunes. Could this be the "flexible" pricing that will draw NBC back to iTunes? Stay tuned...
Hmm... We've been discussing getting rid of cable, but the thing holding me back is my love of Entourage... it might be worth it to pay $2-3 an episode than pay the $60 something a month for cable...
If it's just a handful of shows you really want to watch, then yeah, it could save you a lot of money. Plus, if you have an HDTV with a built-in tuner, just get a good high-quality roof antenna and you'll have all your locals (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.) in HD as well. No need for cable!
